PTFE Membrane Filter Bags: Selection and Application Guide
PTFE membrane filter bags combine a microporous membrane with a selected base felt or fabric. They are considered where surface filtration, fine-particle capture or dust release may benefit the application, but performance depends on the complete media construction and operating conditions.
How the Membrane Works
Dust is primarily collected on the membrane surface. A dust cake forms and is removed by the collector cleaning system. Pressure drop, emissions and cleaning behavior depend on membrane quality, base media, dust properties, air-to-cloth ratio, installation and operating settings.
Base Media Determines the Temperature Limit
A PTFE membrane does not make every filter bag equivalent to a full-PTFE bag. Continuous and peak temperature limits are governed by the base media, scrim, finish and construction. Polyester, PPS, fiberglass and other substrates each have different chemical and thermal limits.
When to Consider a PTFE Membrane
- Fine dust or a demanding emission target
- Applications where surface dust release is important
- Selected humid or difficult dust conditions after condensation risk is reviewed
- Retrofit projects where media permeability and cleaning settings can be checked
Limitations to Review
Membrane media is not automatically suitable for oily, sticky, highly abrasive or condensing dust. It also does not guarantee a fixed emission value, pressure-drop reduction, energy saving or service life. These outcomes must be assessed from operating data and confirmed during project review.
