Advantages of Horizontal Filter Vessel
The operational filtering difficulties encountered in traditional vertical filters can be solved by the Horizontal Filter Vessel, which can address maintenance and spatial layout challenges.
Our Horizontal Filter Vessel is equipped with deflectors and a central water distribution pipe, allowing the liquid to be distributed around each filter element in a reasonable manner, without causing local pressure differentials to surge instantly and causing local blockages. Moreover, the Horizontal Filter Vessel has precise positioning flower plates and tail compression springs inside, which tightly lock the filter element and prevent it from being displaced under high-intensity impact, resulting in the entire filtration system being blocked.
If you use conventional liquid backwashing methods, the cleaning is still not thorough. We can design a PLC controlled, air water combined backwash method for you. Ensure that solid impurities and viscous impurities can be uniformly cleaned and removed, reducing the recovery time of your Horizontal Filter Vessel pressure difference.
Traditional vertical filters have too high equipment, making it more difficult for workers to maintain the equipment at high altitudes. FiltEdge can design a horizontal filter vessel with a reduced manhole height, and use modular interior design to facilitate quick disassembly and assembly, reduce maintenance height and difficulty, and save maintenance time.
FiltEdge will perform basic calculations for you based on your operating flow rate, pressure, temperature, plant area, and height, providing you with low height, short span Horizontal Filter Vessels. Use the smallest possible footprint and height to handle the maximum flow for you.

The structure of the Horizontal Filter Vessel is destined to have advantages in two areas: limited space and high traffic. So when you need a large flow rate and vertical filters are difficult to maintain, you can consider a horizontal filter, which makes it easier for you to replace the filter element and maintain it. Alternatively, if the height is limited, such as insufficient room height or container loading, you may also consider using a horizontal filter.
Whether the Horizontal Filter Vessel can be backwashed online mainly depends on which type of horizontal filter you are using. If it is a core type horizontal filter, the bag type horizontal filter does not support online backwashing. You only need to replace the filter bag/element. If a horizontal backwash filter or a horizontal scraper filter is used, it can support online backwash. Using a PLC control system, when the pressure difference reaches your set value, use water pressure or mechanical scraper to remove impurities from the surface of the metal mesh, achieving the purpose of cleaning.
In addition to the regular maintenance schedule, you also need to observe the differential pressure gauge. When the differential pressure reaches 1.0-1.5 Bar (15-22 PSI), the core replacement signal is triggered. Or you can set a pressure difference yourself.
The process of replacing the filter element is as follows:
- Close the inlet and outlet valves, open the exhaust valve and drain valve, and drain the pressure and residual liquid inside the Horizontal Filter Vessel.
- Unscrew the quick opening swing bolt or other opening and closing structure of the Horizontal Filter Vessel, and open the cover horizontally.
- Pull the filter directly out of the tank.
- Replace the filter element of the core and cover it with the lid to complete the replacement process.
The height of the Horizontal Filter Vessel itself is usually between 1-1.5 meters, and the requirement for the height of the factory building is simple. A space height of 2.5-3 meters can be used, which can be met by 99% of factories on the market.
Horizontal Filter Vessel has requirements for the hardness of the foundation. Although the Horizontal Filter Vessel is not high, its span length can be quite long, with heavy saddles in the middle. Therefore, the foundation needs to be made of standard concrete load-bearing foundation and locked with anchor bolts to prevent displacement.
The shell material of a horizontal filter vessel is generally stainless steel or carbon steel, which can be used for at least 10-15 years.
The support basket and positioning plate are semi permanent accessories with a lifespan of usually over 5 years. If you are using a fully automatic Horizontal Filter Vessel, the lifespan of hard internal components such as stainless steel mesh, scraper, and drive shaft is 3-5 years. Filter cartridges/bags are consumables, depending on your working conditions.
