How to Select Dust Collector Filter Bags

A filter bag should be selected from confirmed operating data, not from material name alone. Temperature, gas chemistry, moisture, dust properties, cleaning method, collector dimensions and the required emission level all affect the choice.

1. Record the Operating Conditions

  • Normal and peak gas temperature
  • Gas composition, oxygen, acids, alkalis and moisture
  • Dust particle size, abrasiveness, stickiness and combustibility
  • Airflow, pressure drop and air-to-cloth ratio
  • Pulse-jet, reverse-air or shaker cleaning method
  • Required emission level and applicable project standard

2. Compare Filter Media

Polyester is widely used for moderate-temperature dry applications. Acrylic can be considered for selected humid or mildly acidic conditions. Aramid, PPS, fiberglass, P84 and PTFE cover different combinations of temperature and chemical exposure. Each material has limits, so continuous and peak conditions must be checked against the specific media grade.

3. Select the Surface Finish

Singeing, calendaring, water- and oil-repellent treatment, antistatic construction and PTFE membrane lamination may be considered where the dust and process justify them. A finish does not by itself guarantee emissions, cleaning performance or service life.

4. Confirm Dimensions and Construction

Check bag diameter, length, top and bottom design, seam, snap band, cage fit and tube-sheet opening against a drawing or an existing sample. Replacement compatibility should be confirmed before production.

5. Review Cleaning and Safety Requirements

Cleaning settings, cage condition and installation quality influence pressure drop and bag wear. Combustible dust applications require a separate hazard review and project-specific controls; an antistatic media designation alone is not a complete safety solution.
