Why Choose FiltEdge Hydrophilic Filter Cartridges?
FiltEdge hydrophilic filter cartridges utilize naturally hydrophilic, high-purity polyethersulfone (PES) or nylon (Nylon 66) membranes with a unique asymmetric microporous structure. Their naturally hydrophilic, pre-wetting-free properties ensure continuous, stable, high-flow rates for aqueous liquids at ultra-low initial pressure drops.
What is a Hydrophilic Filter Cartridge?
When you are dealing with processes such as sterile final filtration of biopharmaceutical solutions, WFI (Water for Injection) system recirculation, food and beverage/wine clarification, or ultrapure water final purification, hydrophilic filter cartridges are the perfect solution.
Unlike hydrophobic filter cartridges, which are “water-repellent and gas-permeable,” hydrophilic filter cartridges exhibit strong water affinity (Water-loving). The microporous surface has extremely high surface free energy, allowing it to be instantly and uniformly wetted by water or polar solvents. In actual industrial production, if hydrophobic filter cartridges are used to filter aqueous liquids, the liquid is blocked by high surface tension, causing the entire system to fail due to overpressure; whereas with hydrophilic filter cartridges, water molecules can flow through the channels with extremely low resistance and high flow rates, while effectively trapping particles, bacteria, and endotoxins outside the “super defense line.”
Classification of Hydrophilic Filter Cartridges
Featuring a 6-inch large-diameter design, a single 40-inch, 0.45 μm cartridge can deliver a typical water flow rate of over 600 L/min at an extremely low initial pressure drop of 0.02 MPa
Each 10-inch cartridge provides an ultra-large effective filtration area of no less than 0.65 m². Its 0.22 μm sterilizing-grade cartridge, when wetted with pure water at 20°C, has a bubble point of no less than 0.35 MPa, ensuring 100% reliable retention of defective Pseudomonas
Through a special surface hydrophilic modification process, this filter cartridge significantly increases its critical surface tension to over 72 dyn/cm, allowing aqueous fluids to pass through directly without the need for pre-wetting with organic solvents such as alcohol, greatly simplifying the operating process.
Core Application: Specifically designed for large-scale biopharmaceutical external water systems, water-for-injection (WFI) reuse, and high-flow water treatment in the synthetic fiber industry. Featuring a large-diameter design (typically 6 inches), a single cartridge can replace several conventional 10-inch cartridges, significantly reducing the filter footprint.
Key Advantages
FiltEdge hydrophilic filter cartridges feature the following characteristics: natural hydrophilicity, no pre-wetting required, low protein adsorption, rigorous integrity testing, and high-frequency sterilization.

With excellent hydrophilic properties and surface tension exceeding 72 mN/m, no surfactants that may leach out need to be added, and no need for time-consuming pre-wetting with isopropyl alcohol (IPA).

For high-value biopharmaceuticals (such as vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, and blood products), the PES membrane’s unique surface charge and low-molecular-weight modification design reduce non-specific protein adsorption to an extremely low level, minimizing valuable drug loss during sterile filtration and purification.

The filter membrane, flow channel layer, and end caps are fused into a single unit in a Class 100 cleanroom using automated multi-station high-frequency infrared thermal bonding technology. This molecular-level adhesive-free bonding completely eliminates delamination, cracking, and secondary fiber shedding during high-pressure operation.

Every filter cartridge undergoes 100% bubble point testing and forward flow/diffusion flow testing before leaving the factory. It features a heat-resistant, modified rigid central skeleton capable of withstanding multiple cycles of high-temperature saturated steam sterilization (135°C) without any structural creep.
Manufacturing Process Technology
The reason FiltEdge hydrophilic pleated filter cartridges can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with leading international giants in the global high-end biopharmaceutical, microelectronics ultrapure water, and fine chemical industries is rooted in the company’s comprehensive adoption and independent optimization of the FiltEdge High-Precision Automated Pleating & Thermal Bonding Technology . This advanced manufacturing process breaks away from the old model of traditional pleated filter production—which relies on manual labor, has low stability, and is prone to introducing foreign particle contamination—and achieves fully enclosed Industry 4.0 automated manufacturing, from raw membrane unwinding, multi-layer support mesh lamination, and precision pleating to fully thermally bonded end caps.

Nanoscale Multi-Layer Precision Laminating and Adaptive Pleating Process
In the core pleating process, the FiltEdge automated production line employs an advanced servo-driven adaptive constant-tension pleating system.FiltEdge’s automated equipment uses high-frequency laser displacement sensors in real-time closed-loop control with the main spindle servo to keep tension fluctuations in the composite material (upstream support mesh + core hydrophilic membrane + downstream protective mesh) within the strict range of ±0.1 N. The system automatically adjusts the pleating knife’s height and angle based on the mechanical modulus of different membrane materials. Pleat height is precisely controlled within design standards (e.g., 12 mm to 14 mm), with a pleat density deviation of <1%. This extreme uniformity not only ensures that the filter cartridge provides maximum effective filtration area when assembled into a housing (e.g.10-inch filter cartridge effective area ≥0.65–0.70m²), but also ensures that when the filter cartridge is subjected to high flow rates and frequent pressure pulses, the pleats do not collapse or fold together, and the flow channels (Flow Channels) remain optimally open at all times.

The core advantages lie in their extremely high operational efficiency and excellent fluid purity. The membrane surface tension of hydrophilic filter cartridges is as high as [value], allowing them to spontaneously and instantly become fully wetted upon contact with aqueous liquids. This completely eliminates the cumbersome process of manual pre-wetting using expensive and hazardous isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or ethanol. Not only does this significantly reduce setup time before production line startup and minimize ultrapure water consumption for flushing, but it also eliminates chemical leaching contamination from organic solvents at the source, perfectly meeting the stringent purity requirements of biopharmaceutical and semiconductor processes.
Our retention reliability is built on fully automated production and international standard validation. FiltEdge’s unique highly asymmetric PES membrane structure features a smooth, gradual funnel shape that physically traps microorganisms within a dense inner matrix. The filter’s performance verification strictly adheres to the ASTM F838 standard; data shows that even after undergoing more than 50 cycles of 30-minute cycles of high-temperature in-line steam sterilization (SIP), the filter cartridge maintains perfect integrity, providing unassailable sterility assurance for downstream fluids.
Our hydrophilic PP filter cartridges are structurally engineered for harsh chemical environments. A fully hot-melt welding process fuses the modified PP filter media, inner and outer support cages, and end caps into a robust, single unit without any adhesive components. It exhibits excellent mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, withstanding a continuous forward operating pressure differential of up to 0.42 MPa at 25°C . This filter is the optimal choice for balancing high performance and low cost in microelectronics acid washing, lithium battery electrolyte fine filtration, and high-purity industrial alkali recovery systems.
