Why Choose FiltEdge Membrane Filter Cartridges?

FiltEdge Membrane Filter Cartridges utilize nanoscale hydrophilic coating technology, which significantly reduces membrane surface wetting resistance and initial pressure drop. Membrane cartridges also feature a unique asymmetric polyether sulfone (PES) membrane structure for high flux and retention stability. Each cartridge is 100% integrity tested to optimize the effective filtration area of the membrane component, increasing the dirt-holding capacity of a single cartridge by up to 25%, and the membrane cartridge meets FDA-approved zero-risk filtration guarantees. Our high-strength polypropylene support layer ensures that the cartridges remain stable after multiple autoclave cycles, further extending replacement intervals.

What Is a Membrane Filter Cartridge?

Membrane filter cartridges are absolute filtration media with a precise, uniform microporous structure that ensures 100% retention of target-size contaminants through a physical sieving mechanism and a large effective filtration area in a very small volume. FiltEdge Membrane Folded Cartridges utilize nanoscale membrane technology with optimized hydrophilic membrane materials to ensure that they are ready to use, eliminating the need for lengthy wetting processes and keeping your production line running at full capacity at all times. Adhesive-free, full hot-melt welding prevents secondary contamination of the fluid with chemical additives, giving you extremely low TOC residuals.

Extremely Low Chemical Precipitates

ISO Class 7 (Class 10,000) cleanroom production, the use of non-adhesive heat fusion welding process, does not contain surfactants, TOC leaching is very low, the center rod, section cover must be through the USP Class VI – 121 ℃ plastic biosafety testing, and volatile residues are usually required to be less than 10mg per 10-inch cartridge.

Ultra-High-Effective-Filtration-Area
Ultra-High Effective Filtration Area

High flux and low differential pressure, not stacked structure and multi-layer composite folding process, high-performance PES membrane with a gradient pore size structure, the membrane cartridge internal pleating design. A standard 10-inch filter cartridge can have an effective filtration area of 0.65 square meters to 0.85 square meters. At a differential pressure of 0.01 MPa, a 0.22 m PES cartridge will typically provide a purified water flux of 15 – 20 L/min at 25°C.

FiltEdge Nanoscale Asymmetric Membrane Forming Process

In the precision casting process, the asymmetric membrane formation process is the core of the technology to achieve a balance between “high flux” and “long life” of the membrane cartridge. By strictly controlling the solvent diffusion rate of the polymer solution in the solidification bath, the membrane sheet forms a remarkable anisotropic structure in the microscopic area. By strictly controlling the solvent diffusion rate of the polymer solution in the solidification bath, the membrane sheet forms a remarkable anisotropic structure in the microstructure, and the longitudinal cross-section is funnel-shaped. The process produces membranes with a pronounced layered feel and excellent pore size uniformity: the side near the fluid inlet has large openings (~1.2 – 3.0 microns) and acts as a built-in pre-filtration layer, while the “dense layer” near the output shrinks down to a precise nominal 0.22 microns.

Bubble point testing demonstrates very high-pressure stability, and asymmetric PES membranes typically utilize 25% more effective filtration area (EFA) than homogeneous membranes. In precision electronic ultrapure water applications, they consistently block particles over 0.1 m at 99.99% efficiency, while maintaining extremely high flow rates, which essentially mitigates the rapid formation of surface cake.

FiltEdge High-Strength Support Structure

The high-performance membrane cartridge has a complex internal support layer and hydrodynamic structure to ensure stable operation of the system. Precise modeling of the internal flow field of the cartridge by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), advanced “wide pleat” technology effectively avoids the common phenomenon of folding failure of traditional folded structures under high-pressure differential environments, and the synergistic effect of the Hot-melt Spacing (HMS) technology can be achieved through the use of a wide pleat. The synergy of Hot-melt Spacing maintains long term flow paths without deformation or closure. The core components, such as the center rod, are made of high strength PP or FEP to optimize the stress distribution of the structure, while the extremely high open porosity provides low resistance to the fluid, which can reach an instantaneous positive impact pressure of 0.6 MPa (87 psi), and can be reduced through the use of a wide pleat under severe high temperature conditions at 80°C. The center rod can be used as the center rod for the flow path. In addition, the filter element lasts up to two times longer than conventional cartridges by reducing shear stress and optimizing the effective flow path in harsh, high-temperature environments.

Testimonials

  • “Reliability is everything in biopharmaceutical end-of-line filtration.”

“The product is very sensitive to protein adsorption, and after trying a number of suppliers, we finally chose the FiltEdge PES Series membrane cartridge. I think we are very pleased with its performance. The integrity test pass rate has remained at 100% for more than a year of continuous use, and production safety is not an issue that can be overlooked.”

“FiltEdge PTFE high performance cartridge has performed amazingly well at the end of our 18MΩ ultrapure water system. Not only does it withstand extremely high flow rates, but TOC dissolution is minimal. We are most impressed with the ‘ready-to-use’ nature of the cartridge, which has shortened our flushing time after system maintenance and dramatically improved the efficiency of our production line operations.”

  • “We often encounter high temperatures and pressure fluctuations in our fine chemical processes. Previously, we were using cartridges that were prone to folding and merging, resulting in a rapid increase in pressure drop. Replacing them with FiltEdge high-strength support structure cartridges has completely doubled the life of the cartridges, even at temperatures as high as 80°C. The return on investment has been significant. The return on investment is significant.”

Why do FiltEdge membrane cartridges have a higher throughput than regular cartridges?

This is due to our nanoscale asymmetric polyether sulfone (PES) membrane structure. Unlike traditional homogeneous membranes, our asymmetric membranes have a “funnel-like” pore size, with a large upstream pore size and a dense downstream pore size.

Combined with CFD hydrodynamically optimized wide pleat technology, this structure significantly reduces the wetting resistance and initial pressure drop across the membrane surface, resulting in a flux increase of approximately 25-30% at the same pressure.

How do FiltEdge cartridges ensure sterilization-level filtration safety?

We adhere to the ASTM F838 standard. Every filter cartridge undergoes a 100% integrity test (e.g., bubble point test) before it leaves the factory to ensure that it retains more than 99.9999% of target contaminants such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In addition, the products are manufactured in an ISO Class 7 clean room, which meets the biosafety requirements of the FDA and USP Class VI, ensuring zero risk of contamination.

How to choose between hydrophilic and hydrophobic versions of PTFE membrane cartridges?

Hydrophobic PTFE: Specialized for sterilization filtration of air, nitrogen and other gases or tank breathers, it can effectively block water.

Hydrophilic PTFE: After special surface modification, it can be directly used for liquid filtration of strong acid, alkali or oxidizing chemical solvents, no need for alcohol pre-wetting, ready to use.

How many times can the cartridge withstand steam sterilization? What is its mechanical strength?

FiltEdge cartridges are fully heat-welded and contain no adhesives. The high-strength polypropylene or FEP support layer and center rod construction allows it to withstand more than 30 – 100 steam in-line (SIP) or autoclave cycles at 121°C – 135°C and withstand instantaneous positive pressure shocks of up to 0.6 MPa.

What are the advantages of Nylon 66 filter cartridges in my application?

Our Nylon series filter cartridges are naturally wettable and can be put into use without pre-wetting. It is ideal for LCD panel development, photoresist filtration, and clarification of organic solvents because the nylon material has excellent resistance to organic solvents and very low precipitates.
