What is a High Temperature Filter Bag?
High-temperature filter bag is the core component of high-temperature flue gas bag-type dust collector, specially designed to cope with high temperature, corrosion and high dust load, to ensure the stable system operation and meet the emission regulations. High temperature is a less precise fuzzy, generic industry description without any mandatory or strict standards or definitions.
Instead of defining a filter bag by a single temperature index, FiltEdge uses long term service temperatures and short time temperatures to more accurately match your filter bag working environment based on dust properties, corrosive components, and other actual operating conditions and industry consensus. We call them high temperature filter bags when the long term service temperature is >160°C (320°F) and the peak temperature does not exceed 300°C (572°F) in most operations.
High Temperature Filter Bags by Media
Depending on organic fibers, inorganic fibers, and their combined composite processing technologies, FiltEdge offers a wide range of proven high temperature filter bags by filter media types to meet your complex environmental challenges, listed as just a few, and can be custom developed for special needs.

Key Features of FiltEdge High Temperature Filter Bags
Although high-temperature filter bags are still filter bags with many of the characteristics of regular filter bags, due to the complexity of their application and the accelerating effects of high temperatures, FiltEdge uses proprietary technology to ensure that you are not only compliant with emission regulations, but also achieve better operation, maintenance and economic benefits.

Long term service temperature 160°C (320°F) – 600°C (1112°F), with peak temperature limitation 1000°C (1832°F)

When the temperature exceeds 300°C (572°F), ordinary sewing threads are completely ineffective, and FiltEdge special treated stainless steel, alloy, or basalt fiber sewing threads must be used.

When the temperature exceeds 300°C (572°F), all ordinary ePTFE membrane fails and surface nano-coating technology must be used

Achieves low resistance and high permeability, reduces energy consumption, and extends service life, achieving <20mg/Nm3 emissions without membrane.

Under strong corrosion conditions, ordinary carbon steel spring snap band has long been damaged, stainless steel support time is also limited, special treatment of stainless steel, or even alloy snap band is preferred.

Proprietary high-temperature and corrosion-resistant formulation treatment agent impregnation or coating technology.

Resists the effects of condensation caused by temperature fluctuations by enhancing water-repellent properties through membranes and specialized coatings.

FiltEdge flap double-layer locking seam reinforcement prevents the middle seam from collapsing, and prioritizes the use of needled felt to reinforce the header and the bottom scuff, which provides better wear resistance and sealing performance.
Why do High Temperatures Have a Far Greater Impact on the Service Life and Performance of Filter Bags than Medium or Normal Temperatures?
While high-temperature filter bags are superficially defined by temperature, their service life and performance are actually more significantly affected by the complex working conditions, including factors like chemical corrosion, oxidation, and moisture. The Arrhenius equation tells us that increased temperature dramatically accelerates chemical reactions, generally doubling the rate for every 10-degree Celsius increase. This accelerates chemical corrosion and thermal aging of the filter bag, leading to premature failure. Therefore, high-temperature environments are not simply a matter of slightly higher temperatures affecting the filter bag; rather, they involve a comprehensive and accelerated process of damage. Selecting high-temperature filter bags solely based on temperature specifications carries enormous risks. FiltEdge, with years of extensive practical experience, comprehensively assesses the properties of flue gas and dust under various working conditions and incorporates multiple advanced filter bag and cage manufacturing technologies to ensure worry-free use.

What Defines a Good High-Temperature Filter Bag?
Generally speaking, the filter bag that meets the working conditions is a qualified filter bag, but it doesn’t mean that it is the best or the most suitable one. Simple standard high-temperature filter bags often lead to a lot of subsequent trouble, FiltEdge always adheres to the principle of comprehensive evaluation based on specific operating conditions, maximizing the fit to your project’s actual needs.Wrong selection can lead to catastrophic failure to meet environmental regulations or premature failure; improper selection can leave you with unstable operations, unexpected downtime, frequent maintenance, and increased overall costs.

Essential Differences between Basalt Filter Bags and Fiberglass Filter Bags Post-treatments
Although both are inorganic high temperature resistant filter bags, the logic of post-treatment is very different due to the different nature of their own material properties, but the both purpose is to ensure optimal performance.
FiltEdge performs a systematic engineering evaluation based on temperature range, acid dew point, oxygen content, dust abrasiveness, dust cleaning method, etc., to propose a more appropriate combination solution.

The temperature of a filter bag is never an independent indicator, it is a systematic project that works together with chemical corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, hydrolysis, dust properties and system operation.
Temperature indicator is an empirical recommendation based on specific conditions from laboratory and operational experience, and its effectiveness varies with changing conditions.
Take PPS filter media as an example, in the case of less than 8% oxygen content, its performance is better, can maintain long-term use below 160°C (320°F) ; but when the oxygen content increases to 10%, the rate of oxidation doubled, the service life drops to about half; more than 10%, the rate of oxidation will be rapid growth, the service life will be greatly reduced, it is not recommended to use.
So the same temperature 160 ° C, the service life is a huge difference, it can not be used as the only basis for selection, otherwise it will produce huge losses.FiltEdge with a wealth of experimental and practical data to assist you in selecting the right filter bags, to maximize the risk of avoidance.
No one person or formula can tell you the precise answer.
According to the Arrhenius equation , the chemical reaction rate doubles for every 10°C (50°F) rise in temperature roughly, which can reflect a rough decrease in service life. However, the actual reaction rate and service life are not only affected by temperature, but also by chemical corrosion, moisture, oxygen, dust properties, pressure, operating conditions, etc., which is an extremely complex system engineering.
FiltEdge conducts simulation and evaluation based on laboratory and practical data, combined with rich application experience, to assist you in selecting the most suitable high temperature filter bag to avoid wrong or inappropriate selection.
Continuous Operation Temperature/Continuous Service Temperature
At this temperature the filter bag can operate stably for a long time to achieve the filtration effect.
Short Time Operation Temperature/Short Term Peak Temperature/Maximum Surge Temperatur
In actual working conditions, the system is fluctuating, it may occasionally occur that the temperature exceeds the normal range, the short time temperature refers to the working temperature that can be coped with for a short period of time occasionally, usually about 30 minutes.
Of course, both of these temperature indicators are empirical indicators combining FiltEdge laboratory and practical data. Actual performance requires careful evaluation based on your specific operating conditions.
Normal use will not.
For filter media that will shrink and deform when exposed to heat, FiltEdge will heat-set filter bags at high temperatures to ensure that they will remain dimensional stable at specific temperatures.
FiltEdge also takes into account the possibility of shrinkage when sewing the filter bags.
As long as the filter bag operates at its designed operating temperature, minor dimensional deformation within the estimated environmental variable scale will not affect its use, and filter bag detachment will not occur.
If it does occur, either the designed operating conditions are exceeded, or the filter media is not qualified or the filter bag and plate hole sizes do not match.
Not exactly.
Of course the most basic requirement for high temperature resistance is not to burn, not melt at designed continuous operation temperature, but this is not enough, FiltEdge high temperature filter bag at this temperature must keep the bag does not deform, not harden, not soften, not shrink, corrosion and aging in a controllable range, but also to play a normal filtration function, and must be continued to work to the expected extended service life.
There is no one high temperature filter bag with the same effect everywhere, there is no uniform standard.
There is no most cost-effective, only the most suitable.
All we can say is that in many cases, the fiberglass needled felt filter bag with membrane is more adaptable and more compatible with dust, flue gas, temperature, pressure drop, system type, operation and their fluctuations, making it one of the most cost-effective choices available.
FiltEdge adheres to the principles of application-specific oriented selection, providing recommendations for the most appropriate filter bag and operational guidance to minimize risk and achieve the lowest total life cycle cost.
When the flue gas temperature drops to near or below the acid dew point, the acid gas will condense into liquid acid and cause corrosion to the filter bag and dust collector, especially when the system start-up and shutdown with temperature fluctuations. Therefore, the best approach for you is to always keep the flue gas temperature above the acid dew point by 15°C (59°F), which is the safest choice.
In addition, we can also take the following measures to better cope with the situation:
- Use more corrosion-resistant fiber material;
- Overall corrosion-resistant treatment of the filter media;
- Membrane lamination, coating, water and oil repellent treatment of the filter media surface;
- Sealing and overall insulation of dust collector;
- Start-up warm-up of the dust collector;
- Start-up pre-coating;
- Controlled cleaning during operation to retain the appropriate dust cake;
- Continue to dust cleaning for a few times after shutdown, and introduce dry air;
- Bypassing can be implemented to handle unconventional situations, if permitted by regulations.
FiltEdge assesses your specific conditions, anticipates various possibilities, selects or designs the right bag, and provides operational guidance to ensure long-term, stable operation.
High temperature resistance is only a prerequisite, meeting emission standards is the basic requirement, high temperature filter bags are moving towards the following trends:
- Ultra Low Emission
- Low Pressure Drop
- System-Level Synergy of Denitrification, De-VOC and De-Dioxin
- Integrated Dust Removal Catalytic Filter Bags
